At the beginning of May, it was our pleasure to install two bespoke aviaries for Hadlow College in Canterbury, Kent. We’ve been lucky enough to have supplied Hadlow College with buildings for more than 14 years now.

Ben from Hadlow College sent us some sketches and pictures of what they needed and we were able to make the buildings to their requirements. The aviaries are very similar but slightly different sizes, one is 5m long and the other is 6m long, both buildings are 3m wide. Inside the aviaries, there is a security panel so that birds can’t escape when students enter the aviaries. There is a low-level pop hole into the flight areas and also a high-level hole as Hadlow College have both flying birds and non-flying birds in the aviaries.  In each of the housing areas, there is a sliding ventilation hatch for good air flow.

Yes really well thank you and we’re really pleased with them! Your team were really efficient, just feed them coffee and off they go. Both were completed within 4 hours which was brilliant. The purpose of these new buildings are to allow our resident bird species large, open flight enclosures, I’d guess they’re around 5 times the size of their current enclosures so they’ll really be able to express more natural behaviour in these. The addition of the open top end also allows us to plant trees to make the enclosures more natural which once again improves the welfare of our birds and allows them to experience different weather conditions also.

Next month we are manufacturing two more aviaries for Edinburgh Zoo. These are a different style, but again will be built off sketches and plans of what the Zoo need. We’ve also built aviaries for Melton Mowbray College, Writtle College as well as for private clients.
